OVERCOMING THE “OTHER”

At some point in our lives, we all know what it feels like to be on the outside looking in.  To be shunned.  To be the outcast.  To be the “other”.  Business leaders, students, parents, political leaders, educators, doctors, professional athletes, social activists, entrepreneurs, entertainers…everyone you can think of.  What are their stories?  What “other” experience is seared into their memory and helped shape who they are today?

How did they deal with that painful feeling?  What lessons did they learn?  How did they turn that negative into a positive that shows up in their professional and personal lives today?  How did they overcome being made to feel like the “other”?

No one wants to be the “other”, but we fear what we don’t know, what we don’t understand, and in many cases, what we simply haven’t been exposed to.   So let’s go there.  It’s time to give each other #permission to speak and #have the courage to listen — with an open mind.  You might be surprised to find that you have more in common with the “other” than you think.
